Serves
4
3 cups self-raising flour
30g butter
1½ cups milk
¼ cup Chelsea White Sugar (optional)
Put oven settings to fan bake and put the oven on its hottest temperature.
Grease an oven tray.
In a large bowl, sift the flour and optional sugar.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt butter and allow to cool. Add milk to butter once cooled.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry until it is nice and moist.
Tip out onto a floured bench and form into a 'round'. Carefully lift and place onto baking tray (a dough scraper helps) and cut into wedges (leave with sides touching - scones will pull apart after baking). Alternatively, use a cookie cutter or knife to cut into rounds or squares.
Turn oven down to 200⁰C still on fan bake.
Bake for around 15 minutes or until golden and test by sticking a knife in the centre of the scone. This should come out clean if cooked.
For sultana scones add ½ cup of sultanas to flour.
Hope you like them!!!
The melted butter hack is a game changer and doesn't compromise on taste or texture! I added dates (omitted the sugar) and they were perfect
I think the butter helps brown the scones. But probably for my household less sugar say about 2 Tablespoons should do it. Thanks for the recipe.
These are the best scones! like five mins and they're in the oven. I leave the sugar out and add chopped dates and they are perfect every time. I've been using this recipe for so many years!
There seems to be a step missing between adding all the ingredients and putting in the oven. Do you knead/cut up?
CHELSEA SUGAR: Hi there, thanks for your feedback. We have updated the recipe!
Excellent. The first and only time my scones have been successful. Have passed on this recipe to others who wholeheartedly agree. 10 out of 10!
Took about 30 minutes to make, I don't regret it. Very tasty and filling my family loves these and I will definitely be making these again! (i had these will jam and stuffed a few with cheese.
Absolutely amazing. I have always been a failure at scones usually turning out something resembling small rocks, but these came out as beautiful light & fluffy raised scones. Viva Success at last.
Awesome recipe! So quick, light and fluffy. You can add anything to this recipe to flavour your scones.
I used this recipe to make sultana scones, and I did add the 1/4 cup of sugar. This recipe makes beautifully light and fluffy scones, I will definitely make these again.
Omg these are the easiest best scones I have ever made!! Highly recommend this recipe. My oven doesn't have fan bake (yep it's old) and I just followed the same temperature and bam best scones ever. Added dates and still amazing!!
Every attempt I've made to make scones has been a disaster, but this recipe?
I'm absolutely delighted with the results, as are my boys..LOL
Awesome recipe for the culinary challenged. Xxx
I love this recipe as the scones always turn out perfect and they are so easy to make. For cheese scones, add cheese to mixture and then cheese on top.
