Ingredients

4 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples (4-5 apples)
1/4 cup Chelsea Caster Sugar (56g)
    1/2 tsp mixed spice
    1/4 cup water (60ml)

    Crumble Topping
1 cup Edmonds Standard Grade Flour (150g)
    1 cup desiccated coconut (100g)
1/2 cup Chelsea Dark Cane Sugar or Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar (100g)
75g Tararua Butter (cold and cut into cubes)

Method

    Preheat oven to 180°C bake.

Place fruit in a well-greased oven-safe dish (approximately 23-25cm diameter for a round dish). Sprinkle with Chelsea Caster Sugar and mixed spice, and pour water over the top.

Place all of the topping ingredients in a food processor and process until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Alternatively, mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl and rub butter in with your fingertips.

Sprinkle crumble topping over the fruit. Bake for 45 – 50 minutes, until topping is golden and fruit is tender.

Serve warm with whipped cream or ice-cream.

Variations: Try mixing apples with other fruit such as pears. Add raisins or sultanas for some extra flavour.

The crumble recipe is terrible. Not enough butter leaving a dusty topping. The other Chelsea crumble recipe is much better.

Love it!

This is by no means a Classic of any kind. Crumble topping consists of butter, sugar and flour ONLY - everything else is a completely unnecessary addition. "If it's not broke why presume you can fix it better?" as they say.

Of course, it you want "Messed About Topping" go ahead but do not call it crumble. Not if you have pride in your work.

These reviews are a crack up lol, some love it somehate it

Amazing

Love it and try it today!
Decorate with ice-cream or custard, can't wait for this.....

this was the most degusting thing I've ever eaten, it tasted like dirt and cardboard

This was a very cheap and easy recipe to follow and the end result is the reason I give this 5 out of 5.
The crumble went down very fast.
I will be definitely baking this at least once or twice a week in the winter.

Quick and easy to make, topping was crunchy the way I like it, best recipe ever !!!

It was so good! Made with ingredients already found in the pantry. Easy to make also

There are better recipes out there, but this one is not at all the worst. It's decent, though I found it to be quite 'soupy'. I'd make some changes to it next time, but overall not too bad.

I can't comment on the apples, as I was only looking for a crumble recipe. But oh my gosh, it was so yummy. My fav crumble topping that I'll re use again soon.
Thank you :)

YUCK

So good!

Easy and delicious...did I mention DELICIOUS?!?!
Just the kind of recipe I was hoping to find for beautiful old style apple crumble.

An old favourite... the number one trick is having enough butter and water for the perfect topping. Thank you for this recipe.

yum

Twas yummy.

This recipe tastes so good and is soooo easy to make!
The best part I like about this is that it doesn't have any ingredients that I need to go out and look for. This is now one of my personal favourites to bake! :))

I may be 11 years old but its actually really easy to make I even added caramel sauce I made it my family on a monday night and it was so good! Thanks to whoever made this exist!!!!!:) 5 rating star

It didn't have any items that are hard to get.

New favorite. I made this a few times and the family love it.

I haven't used the recipe yet but with all the other recipes it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Granddaughter made this... super easy and (super super) delicious!!!! Our old recipe had rolled oats in... prefer this.

It’s an awesome easy recipe.

I love this recipe, grandchildren love it!, I even added some berries!

OMG! So good! I love apple crumble!

Awesome recipes.

So good

This is so yummy, I use it every time
and my family loves it!

We have hundreds of feijoa on our lawn and usually have people come visit to get some but due to lockdown that cant happen - so we are making feijoa and apple crumble as a treat tonight. Thanks for the recipe. Usually I don't have time to cook/bake but at the moment have lots of time. Will freeze some feijoa for later.

Excellent

Good

Very Easy and delicious - I omitted the sugar with apples but added some raisins. Also instead of water I added fresh orange juice.

Family favourite. Grandchildren especially love it - a weekly treat!

Very easy - loved the coconut.

Very easy to make. Yummy. Make it all the time.

I am using this recipe as a kind of a "basis recipe" because it's delicious and easy enough..
I like to try out new things from this one, like adding pears or frozen berries to the apples and raisins and walnut pieces.. Today I even sprinkled a little bit of dark spiced rum over the apples and I can't wait to take the cooked crumble out of the oven and serve it with some vanilla ice cream ;)

So good & easy to make!!

The apple crumble was traditional and delicious.

Great and easy recipe - added berries as well and came out great. Tastes even more amazing when served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream!

Tried it with feijoas. Worked quite well in a casserole bowl; 15 mins @ 180 degrees. Might have baked better in a wider, shallower dish so that the crumble is thinner; thus not stodgy underneath. That might also let a bit more water boil off the feijoas which are wetter than apples and pears that are usually crumbled.

I also added berries yumm
