Serves

2 eggs
1/2 cup Simply Canola Oil (125ml)
3/4 cup Meadow Fresh Original Milk (190ml)
3/4 cup Meadow Fresh Traditional Sour Cream (190g)
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup Chelsea White Sugar (225g)
1 3/4 cups Edmonds Standard Grade Flour (260g)
1/2 cup cocoa powder (40g)
1 1/4 tsp Edmonds Baking Soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (300g), divided
Preheat oven to 200°C conventional / 180°C fan bake. Line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cases.
In a medium jug or bowl, whisk together eggs, Simply Canola Oil, Meadow Fresh Milk, Meadow Fresh Sour Cream and vanilla. Stir in Chelsea White Sugar.
In a large bowl, sift Edmonds Standard Grade Flour, cocoa powder, Edmonds Baking Soda and salt. Stir in approximately three quarters of the chocolate chips.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients. Gently fold together until just mixed.
Spoon into prepared tin (muffin mixture will fill the tins to the top). Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.
Bake for 20 minutes, or until muffins are cooked through (they should spring back when gently pressed on top). Remove from tin and cool on a rack.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Note: recipe tested and updated August 2022 - muffins are moister, slightly sweeter and more chocolatey. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
Just like all of the other Chelsea recipes- ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! My whole family enjoyed these muffins, and my family isn't small!! So moist and so good!
So happy to find a good recipe without butter. I used about a TBSP more cocoa than the recipe and used dark choc chips, the whole bag!! Cooked for 17 minutes only and they are the nicest muffins ever!!! So soft and moist.
100% my go to muffin chocolate muffin recipe. Easy as to prep and make. I make either 12 medium or 9 large. I sprinkle a few choc drops on the top before baking. Soft, moist and delicious
Not sure why these recieved bad reviews. Mine turned out perfect by following the recipe. Good flavour and texture and quick to make.
Great ,easy to whip up and not at all time consuming. Had a great taste and was fluffy and did not have too strong a chocolate after taste.
Might be a touch too much baking powder and more sugar needed. Which is easy to adapt to preferred taste but I think these tasted good.
I think 1 Tbsp of baking powder is way too much. 1 tsp sounds about right! And 1 cup of sugar should be the right amount!
I made two trays the first was cooked 20 mins and they were hard. The second I cooked for 12 mins perfect. Remember a recipe is a guide and you need to adapt to your ingredients and oven. Thank you
It’s a shame I didn’t see the reviews before I made them. I liked the idea that there wasn’t a lot of sugar and butter. I found them very dry and not sweet even though I added extra chocolate chips.
Easy to make plus are really yummy and moist. I added more choc chips plus sprinkled some on top before baking to give the cafe look. Saved the recipe to make again and again.
I could taste the baking powder as there wasn't enough sugar and it was too dry. Wouldn't make again.
It was delicious, and I think it wasn't dry at all. If it was dry, then it was probably the ingredients.
Yum! Absolutely delicious! Not sure why there are any negative reviews. They came out very sweet, very moist and so yum! Easy to make. Followed the recipe and had not an issue
The muffins came out well, nice rise and not dry when baked at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. These are not very sweet which is fine with me but don’t expect them to taste like cake. I used canola oil and they certainly weren’t “oily” (makes me wonder what kind of oil some reviewers used!)
Tasty but quite dry. Nothing 10 secs in the microwave wouldn’t fix though. If I was to make them again I would use butter instead of oil and add more cocoa :)
Not a great recipe, they came out too heavy and dense. Don't think 1 teaspoon of baking powder is enough for the amount of flour. A bit disappointed.
CHELSEA: Hi there, the recipe states 1 tablespoon of baking powder, not teaspoon. That could be the reason for your muffins turning out heavy and dense.
So delicious! I made some for my family and they loved them! I'm really impressed with the appearance too.
I didn't think much of these muffins I wouldn't make them again not sweet enuff and the texture wasn't moist.
These are ok, I definitely wouldn't serve to guests. They didn't rise that great, aren't sweet enough and taste like oil.
This recipe is amazing. The muffins turn out fluffy and chocolatey. They're at their best when you heat just enough so the chocolate chips are melted.
Plus you can freeze them too.
Very delicious! They were very easy to make as well! I had to put in a some more chocolate chips as I found that 1/2 cup wasn't enough. But overall I really enjoyed them!
Not chocolaty, even using after using a half cup of cocoa. Slightly greasy tasting using oil instead of butter. Would not make again.
Had to substitute some of the oil for melted butter and still turned out sweet :) My boy likes them!
Was easy enough to make but the flavour was not that nice. Sure it has cocoa and choc chips but could be much nicer
