Frequently Asked Questions

Public tours will run at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm Monday to Friday during school term time. During school holidays earlier tours will run throughout the day, on the hour. Please use the drop down box to show available tour times when you select a date in the calendar upon booking. There are currently no weekend tours.

Each tour is approximately one-hour long.

Adult (16+) $25.00, Child (5-15 years) $12.50, Tertiary Student $20.00, Senior Citizen (65+) $20.00, Family Pass (2 Adults/2Children) $65.00

Due to health and safety the minimum age is 5 years and each child must be accompanied by an adult. There are 80 stairs to walk up and down through the factory, so everyone must be able to walk unaided.

You will be fully immersed walking through our working factory floor, and travel around our site on the Chelsea Bay Train. You will learn how raw sugar arrives at Chelsea and becomes the final product in our supermarkets. Learn about the history of the Chelsea site; taste test our delicious syrups and see our wondrous sugar mountain!

You must be able to walk unaided. No walking sticks, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches are allowed in the factory. There is a total of 80 stairs to walk up and down on the tour (not all in a row). If part of your group is unable to do the tour, our interactive zone or café will keep them occupied!

It is compulsory to wear long sleeved top, long pants, and flat-soled, enclosed shoes. We will provide the rest of your safety gear. This also includes schools with uniforms.

Yes, we offer a 3 hour structured program. For all information please select School Visits.

School visits are available weekdays in school terms. Our structured program starts at 9.45am, finishing by 1.30pm.

The Chelsea Bay experience is suitable for all students from Year 4 to 13.

  • Years 4-8 - we can accommodate 60 students and 6 teachers/supervisors per day
  • Years 9-13 - we can accommodate 51 students and 3 teachers/supervisors per day
  • Note there is a minimum booking of 18 participants

The experience includes a guided tour of the Chelsea Factory, a hands-on experience in the Edmonds Baking School, and exploration of our Interactive Zone. For more information regarding school visits please select the Factory Tours tab above and then School Visits.

School visits are from Year 4 to13. We require a supervision ratio of 1:10 for Year 4 to Year 8, and a minimum of 1:20 for Year 9 to Year 13.

We require all students/teachers/supervisors to wear long sleeved top, long pants, and suitable covered (closed in) shoes to participate in the factory tour. Due to limited changing facilities and time restraints please have students arrive ready for the day.
