Ingredients

1/2 cup Edmonds Standard Grade Flour (75g)
    1/4 cup rolled oats (30g)
    1/4 cup desiccated coconut (25g)
1/4 cup Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar (50g)
1/2 tsp mixed spice or ground cinnamon
    75g Tararua Butter
    5-6 Granny Smith apples
    2 Tbsp Chelsea Golden Syrup
2 Tbsp Chelsea Raw Sugar or Demerara Sugar

Method

Preheat oven to 190°C bake / 170ºC fan bake.

In a bowl, mix the flour, oats, coconut, Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar and cinnamon together. Rub in the butter until the mixture is well combined and crumbly.

Peel (optional) and cut apples into wedges. Place in an oven-proof dish (approximately 25cm diameter for a round dish). Drizzle with the Chelsea Golden Syrup.

Spread the crumble mixture over the top of the apples. Sprinkle the Chelsea Raw Sugar or Demerara Sugar over the top for an extra crunchy topping. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until topping is golden and apples are tender.

Serve while hot with vanilla ice-cream, cream or custard.

Tips

Try other fruit such as plums, peaches and pears; these work well combined with apples too.

If you love loads of crunchy topping, you can double the quantity (keep the amount of apples the same).

Great details to work with

We where doing a school cooking show we made this we won

This is a brilliant recipe loved by all my whanau!! Highly recommend double topping; its delicious!!

Topping mixture comes out nothing like it's supposed to. Waste of time.

Great recipe, I would just cook the apples and double the crumble. Good balance of sweetness. Thank you

So easy and very delicious thanks!

Quite a nice recipe, would recommend to many people,
easy to make, and recipe can be variated, instead of cutting my apples into wedges, i cube them, it took me awhile to realize that i have been doing it differently. but the result still dominates the other pudding recipies.
Cheers Chelsea.

Nice recipe!
But you do need to get the blog moderator back from leave ASAP.

Best recipe ever!
My family loved it so much!
It tastes best when fresh out of the oven with the cold ice-cream.
The granny smith apples add a touch of sourness!

Great easy recipe

Very Very good my friends loved it

Love this recipe but it’s even better with canna-butter

I’m doing this right now, but with canna-butter

This website needs a shutdown because I shuved the crumble up my ass

good

Love the rolled oats in the topping. I used apple, pears and Feijoas and it was delicious

im 9 years old and I can't wait to make this

Hi. This needs far more crumble topping personally. Absolutely delicious crumble recipe just more of it so I doubled the crumble recipe and used almost all of it and it was a big improvement for my family.

Great recipe. Made a few adjusted to suit what was available in my pantry. Exchanged the dessicated coconut (don't like it) for more rolled oats making sure the rolled oats were finely diced. Precooked the apple slices and added two kiwi fruit to fruit mixture. Despite leaving out out the raw sugar sprinkled on top of the crumble it tasted delicious..5 stars from me. Thanks

Yummm scrumptious harhar

yuck just yuck yuck yuck

im going to make this when our friends come over I'm exited it looks delish

Love this apple crumble!

Could have been my oven because the temperatures suggested never seem to be right for my top oven but there was heaps of liquid at the bottom of the dish. I threw it back in the oven at a lower temperature and cooked it for longer and it got rid of some but not all of the liquid. I added cinnamon to both the crumb and the apples and that was good. I think I'd like to make this again but cook the apples first and then add the crumb and cook further.
Crumb tasted good and had a pretty good crunch.
3 stars because I need to make this more than once to have the recipe work for me but the taste was good enough that I enjoyed it as it turned out this first time.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy mummy

I'm 12 years old and it's pretty good but it's still cooking and can't wait to try it.

It's finished cooking and it's amazing thank you

Easy and delicious every time! Best one we've made.

It was very yummy and crunchy but the apples so soft and caramelized. Delicious, thank you for sharing.
kind regards,
Naomi.

This was the best thing ever!!!!

My favourite crumble recipe. Faultless. I added guava berries which added tartness and more flavour

I've made this recipe a few times and it is always YUM! I recommend cutting the apples such smaller and into about 1-inch squares, but whatever works for you will work! Also adding stuff like Feijoas, Pears and Rhubarb really gives it a flavor kick and something extra special.

can you add different fruits in it than just apples?

Best crumble I've ever made

I made this at school with a class they absolutely loved it and so did the teachers and I

I have not tried it yet but I bet it will be yummy

This is very yummy best thing I have ever tasted.

I used and pealed pears for this dish and it came out really good its now a favorite of mine and a favorite for my friends that also love this recipe it was so easy to make...

I am a terrible baker but this was a success! Wasn’t too sweet and was quick and easy to make. Served it with French vanilla ice cream and some hot vanilla custard. Will defo make again.

this recipe is so good with some homemade custard

My first time making apple crumble and I'm always going to use this recipe.

I was just wondering if it can be stored in freezers or not!

CHELSEA SUGAR: Yes you could freeze this!

Very tasty, quick and easy recipe. Family request it all the time.

I used half stewed apples and a tin of drained apricots because I didn't have enough apples. It turned out lovely.

good

ok

Best crumble recipe that I've ever used. So easy to make and so delicious. My husband loves it and he is an apple crumble conisour.

Super easy to make, just waiting a bit longer for the apples to go soft and next time i'm doubling the crumble lol. 4 stars because its just more about my personal preference on more crumble hehe

I love Apple crumble so much when I was little my nana would always make me some apple crumble with vanilla ice cream on top

Can you use royal gala apples?

CHELSEA SUGAR: Hi there, yes you could use Royal Gala apples but the crumble will be a little sweeter.

Best apple crumble I have ever tasted

Great recipe. Liked the addition of Golden Syrup, but omitted the coconut as I don't like it and I think it detracts from the true apple flavour. Easy to make. A classic.

It is soo good

Hi there, long time eater and first time blogger. Is there a sugar free option? I find honey to be a good alternative. I do hope you take this seriously and don't tell me to buzz off lol.

sincerely b

CHELSEA SUGAR: Hi there, you could try swapping the sugar with honey, this may impact the crumble texture of the topping though. Enjoy :)

Brilliant recipe!! Simple and delicious! I am a convert!

Loved it, nice and easy to make and really tasty!

Best crumble I have ever made. Was proud to serve some to that someone special in my life. Have to make him another one now. Highly recommended

Why was there some sort of liquid at the bottom of my apple crumble after I baked it?
CHELSEA SUGAR: Hi there, this was most likely juice from the apples. Some apples can be juicier or more watery than others. Did you use Granny Smiths?

This was the first time I tried apple crumble. yum

Awesome! My 11 year old loves to prepare this recipe, it's so easy and always turns out great!

My brother did it and he failed the first time.

Hands-down the best Apple crumble recipe I’ve made or tasted!

I really did not enjoy this recipe, it is not spreading out awareness for people with sensitive taste buds, and it was not at my preferred temperature.

Great

Found this recipe a bit sweet. I add about a tsp of syrup to the apples and no additional sugar in the crumble topping. Other than that it’s excellent. Has become our go to recipe!

Better than my Mums and so easy to make.

Very tasty - the crumble was more dough like so I rolled it out and placed over the apple/peach mix like a pastry topping - still a good result. When I made it a second time I added more cinnamon and mixed spice for my taste preference.

This recipe delivers me to absolute success with a delicious result that was finger lickin good. Only thing to note is that I used about a 1/8 cup of water on the apples before the crumble to give a delicious moist texture.

Can this be done with pear instead?
Chelsea Sugar:
Yes, you can swap the apples for pears.

Great recipe , my husband can also make this one . Thanks Chelsea

Oh my god!! My sister asks me too make this everyday now. I sooo recommend this recipe :))

It was soo amazing since I don't really like apple crumble!

I'm just about to make this recipe for the family think it will be five stars. Will share my review when I have made and tasted it.

I love apple crumble. This is the perfect recipe.

Amazing.

It was very yum loved it and if you think it was bad then you made it wrong. You should probably get someone else to make it next time because it was amazing.

Loved it. It was gone in 15 minutes.

very sweet but yummy

Fantastic recipe. Everyone loves it!

Very tasty, I love the topping so much I tripled it.

Works perfectly every time, best crumble I have tasted / made, ever.

It is so yuck

It's cool

Loved the recipe! The crumble was delicious and I served it with custard made with soy milk instead of cow's milk and it complimented so well! I also used cooking apples instead as my apples were going a bit soft and the results were great. Would definitely make again.

Great

Easy yummy recipe for a Nana on the go.
I added blueberries to my apple the second time I made this ..that's yum also.

Loved it. I put raspberries in mine as well which gave it that tangy taste. Yum.

This is one of the best Apply Crumble recipes ever! My family absolutely wolfed it down! I actually really like that there was no lemon juice in it as that usually gives it a really intense and slightly weird tangy taste. The golden syrup made this nice and mellow. Yum

I love it! It is very delicious!
The crumble is so delicious!

Love this recipe! The crumble is absolutely delicious, I use this recipe every time and never fails to impress! Although I do double the recipe, as sometimes it’s not enough. All round my favourite recipe! :)

i did not like it!

image description

In my opinion its kinda dry and it needs something little to improve it, sorry my response is a two

GOOOOOOOD!

image description

I had some pears that had gone a bit too soft for my liking so I used them along with some apples to make this recipe.
In the past I've only ever used rolled out for a crumble topping so it was interesting to use coconut but it turned out well.
Only complaint would be that crumbling the dry ingredients with your hands (as the video shows) is extremely messy and the butter will make it hard to clean your hands.

I would make again but I wouldn't use my hands to crumble next time.

It is a good recipe.

Really good. The topping was lovely, infact i now double it.

Awesome recipe, kids loved it for arvo tea at my after school programme for a change

LOVE IT!

Great.

DELICIOUS

So good

I did not really like this recipe because I also used regular apples and it turned out great.

Love it

Love this recipe I supervised while my young ones had a go came out just right.

great

I really did not enjoy this recipe. I followed it exactly, but used proper cooking apple rather than Granny Smith. The crumble top (which I doubled) had good flavour and was crisp and crunchy. The apples did not cook properly and were very watery. If I use this recipe again, I think it would be better to cook the apple first and put the crumble topping over the hot apple before cooking. The result should be a lot better and nicer to eat.

Best thing I've eaten in a long time. I've been living in Australia for 7 years now and was in desperate need of some soul food. The smell of this crumble while baking, instantly took me back to when I was a child and my mother would bake apple or feijoa crumbles through the cold winters of New Zealand, not only did it taste amazing, it definitely warmed the soul....
Thanks for recipe

I love you guys taste great
Great great great

This Apple Crumble recipe is fantastic. It took me 15 minutes to make including peeling the apples, sooo easy and sooo delicious! My family absolutely love it!

bad

This is delicious please try it my family love it.

Have made this twice now using this recipe first this making it and love it. And so do my family thank you

Great crumble.
I sub out fresh apples for canned when I'm in a hurry and also add some berries e.g. blackberries.
Also halve the amount of plain flour and sub it with wholemeal.

First time to bake this and can't believe it' s so delicious and yummy, can't fault it. Have to make this recipe from now on.

Yummy

I crushed up some bran cereal instead as I didn't have any oats. Had a nice crunch. I crumbled the bran in my hands while I was rubbing the topping ingredients together.

DELISH!!

Great tasty and satisfying

As an oldie the recipes are so easy to follow and so tasty thank you

The ingredients mention Cinnamon yet you don't say when to add it. I will presume it is to the apples. I don't want to sound like "that guy" but I am a novice cook and the recipe sounds simple enough for the likes of someone trying to give the kids a treat I enjoyed as a kid.
Chelsea: Sorry! We have fixed the recipe now.

Fantastic so Delish! :)

this was amazing recipe ill have it for breakfeast (sp) but i really wana make it again with my girlfriend and her cooking utensils its amazing

I really like the Chelsea recipes, because they are so easy and this one was no exception! :-) ... With a few variations, my family really enjoy the apple crumble puddings I have made, with CHELSEA's help! :-)

So easy to make and it was so very good too. I doubled the ingredients to make it extra crumbly. This was the first time for me to make this and it turned out really awesome,
Thanks Chelsea for another awesome recipe.

awesome recipe!
