Serves

180g butter, softened
1/2 cup Chelsea White Sugar (113g)
1/2 can condensed milk (200g)
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 cups Edmonds Standard Grade Flour (225g)
1 1/2 tsp Edmonds Baking Powder
1/4 tsp salt
250g milk and dark chocolate chunks
sea salt flakes, to sprinkle (optional)
Preheat oven to 180°C bake. Line two large baking trays with baking paper.
Cream butter and Chelsea White Sugar until pale and fluffy. Add condensed milk and vanilla essence and beat until well incorporated.
Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until just combined. Mix in the chocolate chunks.
Roll tablespoons of mixture into balls and place on prepared trays. Press down with your hand to flatten slightly. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on the edges.
Sprinkle with sea salt, if desired. Leave to cool on trays for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
NOTE: recipe updated and improved December 2023.
Really good recipe and I loved but I think less condensed milk. I also tried it with brown sugar and it was delicious
I have been using this recipe for a couple of years now and love it!
With having condense milk it will be abit moist, but dont fear! Pop it in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight!
I usually make a double batch. So goes in fridge overnight. I then preroll balls and if some are still soft I pop them in the fridge for a little longer after rolled, and bam ready to bake!
I also leave on baking tray abit longer after first taking out of oven to help make the bottoms a litter firmer. Hope you love my tips n tricks

Sooooo tasty!.. mix is very soft and easier to shape if you leave it for about 5mons after mixing (it will still be soft), only cook to a blond colour rather than golden - they will seem a bit soft / us lightly undercooked when you take them out- but will be beautiful when they cool
Your mixture is completely wrong you don't have anywhere near enough flour and no vanilla essences make it taste bland
Used half tin of condensed milk but still would of needed more flour than this stated, chilled before I baked but mixture still melted when baked and came out looking like pancakes.
I made these cookies and I noticed that the butter and the sugar got all stuck in the beater when I was beating them together.
Another thing was that instead of baking for 15 minutes they were fully cooked and even starting to burn at 9 minutes!
Great how it uses a whole can of condensed milk!
All together really good cookies and would definitely make again!
My granddaughters made the highland milk chocolate chip cookies. Easy recipe for them to follow. Used 2 cups flour as used whole tin highlander milk. Very yummy.
Such a delicious flavour. The recipe was quite sticky so couldn’t roll out as said but I just left the mixture for a few minutes (5), then spooned onto trays with lots of space between as they spread out. Before putting in the oven, I got a hot knife and smoothed them out a little. They are quite blonde when ready - will burn on bottom if left to look brown on top. They shrink/shrivel down as they cool and then they are simply lovely.
If you are to make these, make sure to add WAY more flour, and less condensed milk. The ratio is very off and will quickly leave you with a runny mixture that will burn. With those changes, you will get a much more desired cookie.
First time baker love how the recipes have simple everyday ingredients however for a first time baker like myself i found it hard with little intructions when it came to method. But overall happy mama and happy child for a treat
These cookies are amazing! Everyone I have made these for say the are the best cookies they have ever had. I like the option in the recipe to add a full or half can of condensed milk.
Terrible. Very flat - followed the recipe with a whole tin of sweetened condensed milk. Do not recommend.
Love these, we freeze the dough and cook from frozen - perfect to do a couple at a time for lunchboxes - also stops them from spreading out
Great cookies! Added a bit more flour as they were too sticky. My daughter was looking forward to eating the dough but it was to floury even with the amount said
Very tasty. Had to add more flour though because they were very sticky. I followed the recipe and made 43 cookies!!! Soo delicious!
I made two batches and one burn because the mixture was too runny, and the other batch was all mushed together, and at the bottom of the recipe, where it says ‘this recipe has not been tested by Chelsea Sugar’ I mean, you should test your sloppy mix before you throw it in the bin!
I halved the recipe. Texture is wet but once cooked they are crispy on sides and soft in middle. Yes, they spread but taste very nice and almost like subway cookies.
These were great!! I followed the recipe as stipulated but decided to add a tiny bit more flour. My nephew said ‘they taste just like the subway cookies’. I cooked mine a bit longer to get them crunchy. Perfect, quick & easy! Will definitely make them again!
Dreadful recipe. I used half can of condensed milk. Gooby sloppy mix that all ran together. Total waste of ingredients.
Very easy to make. I used half a can of condensed milk and 200 gms of chocolate buttons, turned out really well. I made sure to have large space around each ball and I also put in the fridge for 10 minutes before baking. Definitely will be making this again!
Good amount of ingredients but very wet mixture found putting it in the fridge for 10 mins held the cookie better. Very tasty.
Recipe is easy to make. As mixture is very wet I put in fridge and then it was easier to handle. It was very sweet I think I would try 1/2 can of condensed milk next time.
Lovely but less condensed milk. And the person who dosnt know what 180 gms if is you should not be baking as it clearly written on the butter in 50gm lots?
I followed the recipe to the exact measurements, it’s turned out too wet and I needed to add more flour! Guess I’ll see how they taste when they’re cooked
Cookies were tasty but the mixture is very sticky. I would recommend adding less condensed milk or more flour?
Thank you Chelsea! This recipe is a keeper for sure. Love it!

Used to make these in early 1960s. Mum was a superb baker and I was the best taster. Half a can condensed milk adequate. My favourite way is to use sultanas instead of choc chips. Yummy!
The condensed milk/flour ratio is definitely off in this recipe as mentioned by others. Tasted ok but biscuits spread flat during cooking. There are better condensed milk chocolate chip biscuit recipes out there.
Me and my grand daughter tried this recipe and were both surprised as the recipe had so little steps and very few ingredients. When we were on the step where we added the condensed milk we were surprised as it was so easy to mix and it had very little lumps. Currently waiting to get chocolate chips but so far I'm very pleased at this.
Made these before with only half a tin of condensed milk and these were perfect. Made them a second time and put the whole tin in, way too runny and needed to add at least an extra half cup of flour. Taste very good and easy to make

your recipe suck you need to tell people what 180g of butter = because my kids didn't know it was and I wasn't there with them and they got really mad at them self they even tried looking it up nothing.
Horrible mixture! Too moist and impossible to roll. Had to add about 2 1/2 cups of flour to get it to a decent consistency!
So yummy- I used half condensed milk and when I made the balls pressed down with a fork then placed a chocolate button on top. So easy to make and everyone loves them and wants the recipe. Highly recommend.
Amazingly easy to make. My son loved making these with me. We weren't able to roll them though as the mixture was too wet, but we just used sooons to dollop the mixture into the tray!
Mine are currently in the oven and they smell amazing!! It was pretty easy to make, but the mixing and dropping was a bit hard due to the stickiness, and I didn't have any chocolate chips left :( so they're a bit plain, but I definitely recommend this recipe!
So amazing I love these cookies and they're so easy to bake the downside is that it was a bit hard to mix but eventually it was easy. So basically the downside was that I ate them all really quickly. definitely recommend:).
I refrigerated the second batch before baking and found it so much easier to roll into small balls then press with a fork before baking. I also increased the flour by 1/2 cup and baked the biscuits for 20 mins on regular bake. (also added macadamia nuts and 200grams chocolate drops)
So delicious I ate half the cookie dough. I spoon dropped these instead of rolling, cookies still came out delicious.
Such yummy biscuits, took them on a school trip and went down a treat! SO easy to make! Definitely reccommend!! :)
They taste delicious, but I would recommend adding 1/3 of a cup extra flour, only 150-200 grams chocolate, and around 300 grams of the condensed milk. The recipe is easy to follow, and there aren't too many steps either, so they would make a great recipe if you have children, and you can always substitute out the chocolate chips for dried fruit and that sorta stuff.
Easy to make and tastes AMAZING! Very rich though, but once you have one its impossible to stop there.
Absolutely delicious..I recommend these.. they are so nice as soon as they come out of the oven as well, very easy to make as well
Made these biscuits, but only added 150g of choc chips as I thought 250g was a bit much and they were amazing. This recipe made 24 biscuits for me and they were a good size. LOVE THEM. Thanks
Followed the recipe exactly as you have written it and they turned out PERFECT!! We LOVE them. Made 24 biscuits with the above recipe :-)
Yummy! Only used 1/2cup of condensed milk and replaced half the choc chips with dried apricots cut up. Really easy to make for a tasty treat.
I followed the recipe completely and found that the biscuits were very moist and did not rise but spread out flat.
Once all my ingredients were in it was rather sticky, I needed about an extra 1/2 cup of flour. They turned out okay and tasted great in the end.
