125g Tararua Butter
250g packet plain biscuits
1 cup desiccated coconut (100g)
Zest and juice from 1 lemon
Lemon Icing
1 cup Chelsea Icing Sugar (150g)
1 tsp lemon juice
Hot water
Desiccated coconut, to sprinkle on top
Grease and line a 20cm square baking tin.
Melt condensed milk and butter together. Crush biscuits and add to butter mixture together with the coconut, lemon zest and lemon juice. Press into tin, then refrigerate for 1 hour.
Lemon Icing
Mix together Chelsea Icing Sugar, lemon juice and enough hot water to form a smooth spreadable consistency. Spread over the slice and sprinkle with coconut. Leave to set.
Easy to make and can transfer coconut condensed milk to make it dairy free. It's everyone's favorite.
Awesome super easy recipe, works well, delicious. To reiterate others, those that it didn't work for did something wrong. Weigh and measure the base ingredients, don't guess it.
"Delicious" we made this in school during one of our Garden to Table sessions it was a hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worked very well. I wonder if the people who are saying it’s too wet used a whole tin of condensed milk by mistake, instead of half a tin (200 g)?
This is absolutely delish - my whole family loved it and so did I. I doubled the icing too and added a little extra lemon.
Absolutely love this simple recipe. I use this recipe all the time. We love this recipe, so easy to make and taste delicious
Thanks to some of the great tips from other reviewers this was a success and delicious slice. I love lemon so I added more then what the recipe required.
Love this slice. I always add extra lemon juice for more flavour. Add yellow food coloring makes icing stand out. my icing is never as thick as it looks on the picture so I try double it next time.
I have tried many recipes from Chelsea, but this was absolutely woeful. I followed recipe exactly and found it was way too sweet, wet and greasy. Unfortunately I had only purchased 1 pkt of biscuits and ran out of coconut trying to absorb the moisture. If I could give it a minus score I would. The sweetness overrides any of the delicious tang of the lemon unfortunately.
I'm not a fan of sweet things but my neighbor made this and brought some over, I just couldn't stop eating it! Delish!! & so easy
It is delicious. All of you giving low ratings have done something wrong. So simple, quick and easy.
Terrible. WAY to sweet and a horrible consistency. Don’t use any water in the icing if you plan on making this.
Absolutely delicious you can't go wrong. You can also reduce the amount of condensed milk if you prefer. All my visitors love it and always ask for recipe.
I made as directed and it was too wet. I added an extra packet of biscuits (200g) and some extra coconut about 1/2 cup. Slice turned out great.
It was easy to make and it tastes amazing! I love your cookbooks. I have got about four of them.
I loved the taste
We love this. So easy. Hardest part is waiting for it to set! Question: how long can it stay in the fridge once made?
Chelsea Sugar: It can be kept in the fridge for 3-7 days.
Mine turned out more like a fudge consistency. Would use half the amount of condensed milk next time or double biscuits
Going to try making slice for the first time. Could someone suggest which biscuit to use? And how many slices does this recipe yield?
CHELSEA: Hi, we've updated the recipe. Enjoy!
Hi there, would like to make it but wondering how much icing sugar to use? Thanks
CHELSEA: Hi, we've updated the recipe. Cheers!
Tried this many times, huge hit with everyone! Everytime it goes down within the hour it's finished! Lol!
Do you mean sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk, when you say condensed milk?
CHELSEA: Hi there, condensed milk is sweetened condensed milk. We have updated the recipe to make this clearer. Thanks!
Wow just tried this today was so yummy and easy to make :D only thing I changed was the icing needed a few teaspoons of juice not 1 but I went by taste (prob used 2 1/2 teaspoons or about 1/4 a lemon but had to make a bit of icing ) def will make again and had approval from several family members already even my mum said "this tasted like I had hoped" and shes an expert on what slices taste like lol
Got some lemons last week and been looking for a recipe to try this looks amazing gonna make it today
Hi just wondering for uncooked lemon slice do you add the whole lemon in recipe rind and all. Thanks
CHELSEA: Hi there, you need to add the juice and the zest of the lemon. We have updated the recipe to make this easier to understand. Enjoy :-)
Nice slice, and you can change to suit your tastes. We add raisins and don't put icing on it. Yummy kiwi classic.
Really simple, I have also made an orange slice with only juice of 1/2 an orange and 1/2 the zest. the rest of the juice and zest went into the icing
